Overheating AMD X2-6000 Issue

Hi just need a bit of advice really Ive built a AM2 X2-6000 rigg for a m8 and nothing but nightmares for past 2 weeks since ive built it.

Using an Akasa 876 Cooler and even 3 other £15-25 heatsink jobbies I cant get this thing too run stable, it idles at around 40-45c and running toast or few apps looped like Norton Scan/Windows media player can hit 55-65c however running Orthos puts it too a staggering 80-95c !

It doesnt last long running at 95c it just alarms and switches off.

I belive its a Brisban Core and Doing some google search suggest this chip had a defective Temp sensor?

Someone suggest its using much higher volts is it ok for me too lower the Volts and how much should I try ?

Any other ideas btw the guy who said his X2-6000 overheats had a Sunbeam Core contact cooler ! and I was just considering buying that!
 
Load up Orthos and once its upto 95c just quickly touch the heatsink nearer the base, if its at 95c you should burn your fingers :) if it doesnt 'feel' that hot then it would lead me to beleive the temp sensor issue, you should be able to get a rough idea if the cpu is getting 'too' hot using this method
 
Yeah its not that hot at all it is Warm though when it gets that around 95c

The issue is if it does have a temp issue its still switch off after 15-20 minutes of orthos....

Any other ideas ? I can only think of dropping the voltages but I think the 1.1 rating is for quiet and cool feature. Might just try 1.3volts for now cos my current voltage is like 1.4+ since its set it too auto in bios.
 
if its a brisbane it should be 3.1 at stock 65nm windsor are 3.0 stock 90nm i belive.

see my sig for cpu-z that on 1.36. It will go 1.4vcore but temps hit 65c on orthos. Mind not cleaned my cpu fan for over a year so might help :p
 
hi, maybe the cool and quite feature is not working correctly try turning it off in the bios. what voltage is it currently set at ? Also i have a 5600 x2 @ 3.2ghz but cannot get stable. temps are high (79 full load) but not as high as what you are getting. wondered if you could help me get it stable. when i run prime 95 after a few mins it fails. i am using frequency - 229mhz, multiplier - 14x, cpu voltage - 1.350v ? any help much appreciated. thanks

your lucky too get 65c on orthos alone...yes its brisbane core

Im currently hitting 1hr on orthos @ 63c-65c

If it stays like that for another hour or 2 id be happy :)

Ive currently set my vcore to 1.275 volts, how long shall I run blend test orthos for ?
 
tbh on not a member of this 110% stabilty fan club (24hr prim etc), if pass an hour of orthos, plays tf2 for 8 hours on the trot and can run fold for say 24hrs without any errors to me thats stable :p

Whats your stock volts? My Windsor is 1.3 (1.23V in CPU-Z) and gets up to around 70c.

Yeah I agree if Orthos to me can run for a good 2-3hrs I conclude that fully stable for every day use, I am running things at stock and the guy whos gonna use this pc aint even gonna game on it.

I dont know much about Orthos but too me it feels like it stresses the system plenty more beyond the point of Video editing and even hardcore gaming for hours at an end ?

But maybe wrong with that !

My brisbane core can hit 95c that was @ 1.425 volts dropping it too 1.275 and cpuz reporting 1.3-1.35 volts am hitting 65 maxed.

Gonna run Orthos for few hours or maybe overnight @ 1.275volts and pray :)
 
Wasnt any good still hit 73c in orthos after 20 minutes dunno Im gonna buy a sunbeam cooler or Mugen 2 way I see it if that mofo cant cool this cpu nothing else on this planet can.

At least the newer AMD cpus dont have these faulty temp sensors and overheating issues, I just think I need a highend CPU cooler thats £30+ thats all.

What sorta cooler u guys got ono your X2-6000 anyhow?
 
yeah considering the sunbeam cooler, still aint given up just yet decided too get rid of the old silver paste and try the last few drops or artic cooler and ive just reseated it again so its more covering the AM2 cpu... will give it another bash.

On the AMD board a guys got a sunbeam core contact and he still hits 70c with his brisbane X2-6000 so dunno just seems sod law I reckon with this chip.

Wont be in such a rush with AMD in future ;)
 
wow. those temps are high, mine idle's at 15-20 deg using a freezer pro 64 and cool and quite,
it gets upto around the 40 mark after a hour or 2 gaming.
 
Well I reseated the heatsink and applied thermal silver paste and now hit a comfortable 60c orthos with room temp of 30c :)

Was just a case of undervolting it a tad too 1.3volts from 1.425 volts and removing the heatsink base and making sure it covers the cpu fully and it did the trick :)

Still dont like AM2 cpus/heatsinks anymore lol but it was was partly user error and part high volts which wasnt needed since orthos passed 19hr soak test @ 1.3volts with a brisbane core X2-6000 cpu :)
 
Hi all - Dont mean to hiJack your thread HighlandeR -
I am a Noobie at OCing - i have a AMD AM2 4200+ (2.2Ghz) Overer clocked to 2.7Ghz, which equates to 22% overclock. I am using a Freezer pro with standard Thermal paste.
Idle temps are around 40c on Core1 and 33c on core2.

Stressed using Orthos for 3hrs - temps are (49c core1) (41c Core2)

Any opinions on these temps - ? 49c seems alittle high,,,

too get 49c is amazing I woulda been happy with orthos @ 65c tbh

Regardless I was just making it stable/reliable since its for a customer and its sold off already.

In future any pcs I build ill look into proper £30-40+ heatsinks with backplates and not rely on AMDS mounting/socket... may even stick with good ole Intel forced into the back plate/decent cooler factor :)
