Morning all,

I have recently purchased watchdogs as my latest game but unfortunately i am unable to play it,

I attempted to play it the other night and after about 15-20 mins my pc shut down on an overheated cpu.

i have a watercooled antec kuhler H20 620

this has been in for maybe 3 years so do these things loose their cooling capacity?

i have not seen this on any other games and play titanfall and battlefield with no problems and i have a nvidea gt780 frozr gpu which remains quite cool

i have installed cpu temp monitoring and can just watch it creeping up and up to boiling point?

i will take the cover off this evening but i personally dont think it will make a difference being watercooled :(

Please gurus can i have some wise words :)

do i need to upgrade cooler or fill the cooler up?

Many Thanks

I have the same cooler and it is able to handle a 3570K at 4.5Ghz with a decent fan so I would say something is wrong.

Remount it and make sure the pump is actually working.

Is the rad clean? Fan ok?

Pumps can fail 3 years is a good life span for one of those things.

Without running watchdogs what temps are your cpu at for light load and idle.

Remove the heatsink, replace your TIM and reseat the heatsink. It may simply be a case of degraded TIM, although strange that it only occurs in the 1 game. TIM replacement is certainly the first thing to do with diagnosing any overheating problems, especially if the cooler has been in place for ~3 years using the same TIM.

sitting around 55 degrees on each core and i will hoover out the rad and check the fan on it.. good point

By the word TIM i'm assuming that is thermal paste? (not sure on intials TIM tho lol sorry)

any recommendations on a good paste without busting the wallet?

Gelid GC Extreme

Is that 55 degrees idle or in watchdogs?

If it is idle, deffo a problem there. Reseat with new tim and report back!

My recommendations for TIM:

MX-2
MX-4
GC Extreme

^
All electrically non conductive, so if you need some for VRMs or Memory or anything like that, you can use any of those.

55 degrees @ idle is that too high @ idle?

in watchdogs it goes to 100degrees and shuts down

i have ordered some mx2 thanks for the advice

i have stripped pc and given everything a good hoovering and now all cores sitting @ ~35 degrees so it will be even better when i redo the TIM

played watchdogs and sitting @ 55 degrees.

Damn you dust!!

Cheers Guys i think i know my direction now :)

LOL believe it or not it didnt look much but i pulled the rad off and gave it a good hoovering all thru the centre and round the edges.

aslo cleaned the fan blades which were dirty, my pc runs 24/7 so mucst make more of an effort to give it a clean out now n then.

it was more clogged thru the veins of the rad.

i am clean honest lol
