at the moment currently using the stock intel hsf but i noticed the temperatures have risen upwards of 100deg and after reboot bios CPU temp warnings started appearing, so it seems i need to buy a new hsf and am just wondering which out of the many for the i7-920 LGA 1366 socket would be good, i have around £50-70 to spend on it and if this would actually help my situation :<

Some options below, what RAM are you using?

I used the Thermalright Ultra on mine, with Overclocked temps at 65c~ full load.

Are you overclocking? If not there is probably no point in going for an expensive cooler. You may find your temperatures drop to what they were before if you replace the thermal grease on your current heat sink.
