Overheating?

A friend of mine's pc has started to switch off completely after a while. He'll then have to leave it for a bit before he can restart it

I'm guessing the cpu's overheating but do Intel chips overheat? What else could it be?

Intel chips of pentium 4 or above have good thermal throttling, but it still may be overheating, check his temps and also clean all the dust out of his heatsink. will help.

Make sure fans are still spinning.

Open the case and check if the CPU fan and heatsink is clogged full of dust.
