Just re-installed this after a long absence and had to comment on how much bloody good fun it is. Don't believe it got much hype on release so regard it in the same vein as Riddick as a relatively unknown gem. Played it pretty much solidly over the weekend and it still felt fresh. 8/10

The good points:-

1) The control system is phenominal, control your overlord with one analogue stick and your bunch of crazed minions with the other. Select the different abilities of the minions with the appropriately coloured buttons on the xbox 360 pad. Native rumble support as well.
2) The voice acting is very well done, nice assortment of well recorded script similar in style to Fable.
3) Nice graphics engine, though it has a slightly cartoony feel to it, it is all very well drawn with nice attention to detail and a solid 60fps frame rate even at 1920x1080 maxed.
4) Great sense of humour
5) Nice variation of puzzles and strategic gameplay.

The bad points:-

1) The minions constant chatter could annoy some people.
2) Level design means having to go over the same ground time and time again.
3) No ******* map!!!! This has to be the worst feature and beggars belief that they couldn't/wouldn't include one.

There's a map in the box :) obviously you cant see yourself on it but it gives a decent idea of where you are/going.

The going over and over the same areas is a bit annoying, but yes, it's an excellent game :) I found some of the controls a bit rubbish though. i hit a dead end on one of th elevels because i couldnt send my minions to pick up an item in a maze type area. It wasn't my inability, they just wouldnt/couldnt do it.

Shame really.

what a coincidence, i was just on the overlord forum having a look around.

have you tried the OL: Raising Hell expansion, t'is great fun.

theres also going to be an overlord 2 in 2009!!!!!!! w00t! :D

what does the expansion pack offer?

One thing that I do find a bit odd is that even though you're supposed to be an evil overlord, you spend most of your time doing favours for the peasants and killing zombies/halflings etc when I should just be recruiting them to my side and go round raping and pillaging the towns. :D

Unfortunately, for those of us who picked up Overlord through the Steam Weekend Deal the expansion pack will not work due to insurmountable technical difficulties. Thankfully it's a great game which does make up for this short fall. I do echo the OPs opinion regarding the map though, one would have been very much appreciated.
