Hi all,

I have recently bought the LG IPS234 monitor but it seems like the backlight is very overpowering. in the bottom right corner i seem to get a permanent bright white spot that is very noticeable when playing in the dark and when the screen content is also dark.

In addition to this the overall backlight seems to be very bright and it seems to ruin the depth of the blacks. Is this just me being very picky or does there seem to be an issue with my monitor?

I have turned the brightness from 100(default) down to 1(minimum) but the 'black level' adjustment seems to be locked. I cant get the screen to look good when playing content that is at night (eg dark).

Hop my problem makes sense here, i'd like to know if it the monitor in general, specifically my monitor, or all monitors?

Thanks

It sounds like you've got some back-light bleeding going on - something that occurs quite often with the cheaper 27" panels (which is why they're so cheap). I wouldn't have thought an LG monitor would use the A-/B grade panels themselves though. If it were me I'd definitely get it checked out and probably RMA'd.

It is only a 23" panel but it was exceptionally cheap at just over 100 quid. maybe i will just return it and not be such a cheapskate next time.

you should be able to adjust the black level, have you read the manual on how to do it?

that will reduce the brightness glare

turning off dynamic contrast in ccc/video might help aswell

The manual says black level adjust is only available via HDMI so i am currently plugged into HDMI but obviously, begin in the UK, it is currently day time so cant really test the darkness issue.

Tbh though, looking now i can see on the window clock at bottom right that there is still a bright spot.

EDIT: Where is dynamic contrast in CCC? :-/

Sure it's not IPS glow?

Tbh, no i'm not 100% sure. But what i am sure about is that i find it unacceptable. I do like the improved colours on this monitor but if im going to get this rancid glow on everything then it completely spoils it...

dynamic contrast is in ccc/video/quality

im using hdmi too and an older lg 2260v monitor,i can adjust my black level fine, spend a little time setting it up and you should be able to improve things
