is it possible to bend the pins on the MOBO CPU by overtightening the cooler down, because nowhere in the instructions does it say how tight you have to bolt the cooler down

i suddenly noticed the the frame mount bowing and thought ``that looks too tight``

The CPU pins wont be effected by pressure being applied on top of the CPU.

The standard push fit system seems to put a lot of strain and can bow the motherboard but has never caused a problem in my experiance. I personaly prefer installing coolers with backing plates that take all the pressure off the motherboard.

If you have a cooler with springs on the fixing screws, it is the spring which applies the pressure to the CPU. To overtighten, the spring will be fully compressed and then some.

On my previous prolimatech super mega, i used the black 70lb pressure rated screws. They even come with a warning about possible cpu damage if over tightened.

read something the same before i fitted my ven x. don't think the damage risk was to the pins as such, more that the cpu itself could get crushed internally. i'll be damned if i can find the link again though

Aye, just noticed it again when i boxed the cooler up the other day. Ill say this though, that sucka didnt move when attached with those screws.:D

lol, yea i could swing from the ven x and it wont move, thought it took a bit of fiddling and swearing at it to get the bugger tight....at first it actually started to get looser the tighter the screws became !!

to the op, i think you'd have to be terribly unlucky or have used an ill-breed level of force to actually cause damage.
