I have a set of G.Skill Ripjaws 4GB that are supposed to run at 1.6v and 7-8-7-20 1600MHz on an Intel board. I am running them on my AM3 Board at 8-8-7-20 but can I overvolt them slightly so I can get 7-8-7-20? Would they overheat? How much do you think I can safely overvolt them? I have good airflow in my case but no fan directed straight at the RAM however my CPU fans so draw air across them and there is an intake fan pretty near them.

Thanks

I was running 4GB CL7 (1600) Ripjaws @ 1.64v using 7-7-7-24 (F3-12800CL7-2GBRH), now running them @ 1640, 8-8-8-27, also using 1.64v. Have used 1.64v every since I got them last November, G.Skill state that they are tested @ 7-7-7-24 @ 1.65v, so 1.65v is quite safe to use...For your Ripjaws it will state on the sticker on the ram and on the G.Skill website the voltage to use at certain timings, but I suspect it will also be 1.65v...

as jbloggs said, up to 1.65 should be fine. Surprising that they won't run 7-8-7-20 in any mobo though, it shouldn't make a difference. The set I have runs at the rated 7-7-7-24 under-volted at 1.5 with no issues.

It's your IMC that needs overvolting, not the ram.

I had the the CL7 1600 ripjaw kit and it did 2066MHz CL7 with 1.65V on an Intel IMC. The AMD IMC just isn't quite the same...they improved it a lot with Thuban but with the 955 the IMC is not that great.
