I am currently dieting, but have tonight decided to drink lots of beer and get drunk, which will probably involve also eating food later. Shame really.

Anywho, I'm 5'8 and weight 95kg, which is quite heavy but I am not noticeably large (in the sense of "oh he's a right fatty", just average man-fat I guess.) I would prefer to be of an average build, but I really don't see being large as such a big problem, and so lack the motivation to stay dieting.

Is it acceptable/normal to 'accept' being large as a consequence of great enjoyment of food/beer, or is there something wrong with me

Personally, I was overweight and was disgusted by myself, but that's just me I guess.

Nothing wrong with being large if you're happy, but I can't see how you can be 'not noticeably large' when you weigh 20kgs more than me and are 2 inches shorter- I'm not exactly small! :o

its down to individual, some people want to be different from what they are and go about changing it, others dont mind how they look.

as long as your happy

God i hate it when people say "as long as you're happy".

You obviously aren't completely happy if you're questioning it. I find that generally people that say "as long as you're happy" are people who can't be bothered to put in any work to do something.

Get down to the gym a couple of times a week. Nobody's asking you to turn into Mr Motivator, but 95kg and 5"8 is quite bad. The hardest thing by far is doing the first 3 sessions down at the gym, then it just is part of the routine and you no longer dread going, you look forward to it!

Why not enjoy your beer/good food AND look good at the same time??

EDIT: Plus you are now considered "obese" by the NHS and your health is at a much greater risk.

Looks can be deceiving. Whilst I look overweight, no one would be able to guess how much I weigh. It'd be at least 3 stone more than they thought!

I think I am in the same boat.

Most of my weight seems to be on my legs/belly, and I generally wear fairly loose tshirts/jeans anyway, it just looks like my style.

Thanks for your input guys, any more comments would be lovely :)

Ive lost 5 pounds in 3 days by drinking water =]

Eat less, eat healthy, drink water!

probably loosing a good bit of lean muscle mass by loosing weight at that rate, a healthy rate that gives you the best chance of holding onto lean tissue is around 2-3 pounds a week iirc

I think it is even less than that if you do it "properly". I.e. so it won't come back.

Think if you are 5'8 you should be looking at being about 75 Kilos, 12/13 stone max. Fun excercise is the answer, swimming, cycling, I don't count running as fun exercise. I'm 5'10 and 75Kilos and do a lot of swimming which really helps to burn the crap I eat.

he was questioning whether it was acceptable for him to be a larger size, and the answer is yes.

we're not sayin if your happy being overweight but want to be fit then stay overweight. We're sayin do what ever makes you happy, if bein overweight dosnt bother you that much then theres no need to get fit. If however you would rather be fit then get yourself to the gym

the moral we're trying to get across is - do what will make you most happy

interesting read. to myself i would say i am over weight, i do want to do something about it, but lack the motivation... however tommorow at 7.15 i have my first induction at the new local gym :D

just need to keep it up

Hate to burst your bubble but most of that weight you have lost will be water- rely on the mirror not the scales.

No because before this i was 11 stone 8

I do what I did for 3 days Im now 11 stone 3

ill report back in a week!

either way i aint bothered i just wondered if i could do it, im only chubby that is all.

You realise that to have lost 5 lbs of fat you would've needed to have a calorie defecit of 17,500 calories? In three days? Which is laughably unbelievably impossible?

i dont understand how people can not care to have the best physical body as possible, ie if i was skinny/fat i would always be doing something to improve it, so i dont think its acceptable to be fat, but thats just me :D

I'm 6ft 2" and 205lb's (14.6st)

This for me is a near enough ideal weight or near enough take 10lb's. I have a bit of man fat yes but I like being bulked rather than nothing on me. I wouldn't say I'm fat though not at all.

I do plan on loosing a tad though as in the doctors eyes I am ever so slightly overweight.
