Hi guys,

In the process of moving to Exchange 2007 from MDaemon.

I'd like to set OWA as the default mail app on the desktop machines (a mixture of XP and Vista).

Has anyone done this or know of a reliable way of doing it. I've tried a reg hack on a test machine but met with limited success. What'd be great is if there were a GP template for it.

Preferrably one where when you click on a mailto it actually opens a new message rather than bringing up the OWA front end.

Any ideas?

Is this because of remote users? if so you could use RPC and connect the outlook to the OWA.

I think you meant to say RPC proxy.

I suspect the reason he wants to use OWA rather than Outlook is that Exchange 2007 you have to license the clients to use Outlook unlike the earlier versions.

Messageware is the way to go if you want to use OWA as a mail client. Afaik it isn't possible to do it without the use of 3rd party software.

Bit late, but I meant to say RPC, I thought most people would understand.

It's called Outlook Anywhere in 2k7 and RPC over HTTP in 2k3 if that helps.

EDIT: I realise that this isn't the answer btw :D

EDIT EDIT: How about a google for OWA Notify ?

erm.... Im going to bed now, Not even going to comment about RPC. I have used it tones of times and set IIS up with certs etc.

But this isnt even related to the thread

Whilst it doesn't have anything to do with the original question I can't see why an incorrect statement should be ignored.

You state you are using RPC to connect to OWA. You aren't. You don't connect to OWA with RPC. You can only connect with HTTP or HTTPS.

You can configure an RPC Proxy or RPC over HTTP proxy to use it's full title. But this still isn't connecting with RPC.

RPC is a security nightmare and the last thing you would want to do is open that port up on the internet.

You are connecting to OWA with HTTP / HTTPS and the RPC Proxy is then talking RPC to the mailbox server.

This is a much more secure method.

I know what it is! HTTP over RPC Proxy, but as said I thought you would understand what i was going on about, which you did. SORRY i used the wrong terminology but i didnt want to go down "yet another" OCUK debate about something utterly pointless. If I have affended you or anyone in IT in general im sorry. Please just leave it already. :):):)
