Anyone got one? :)

Just bought a lovely 13" rMBP but refused to pay extra for the apple ssd - the OWC looks like a nice option - or better to go with an external SSD with Thunderbolt connection?? :D

I'd have just paid the extra at build time, I don't like the idea of carrying around an external drive (plus I already 'need' 3 Thunderbolt connections and only have 2) and keeping the warranty intact matters imo.

(PS bought, not brought :p )

Just ordered an original brand new 512GB module for £350 - beats paying Apple £1,050 for the same upgrade :D

Should be here in 3 days with the special tools to open the macbook :D

aren't they sand force drives? that is the only thing putting me off. Would love to get a 512 for my 15" but apple upgrade prices are just unrealistic.

You don't lose your warranty replacing HHD's or RAM. Just get a Samsung 830 500GB and put it in the Mac, then run TRIM enabler. Job done.

Apple's prices are horrendous.

I didn't think either were user replaceable parts on the retina MacBook Pro?
E.g warranty remains intact.

Just an update - drive is in and working well :D

Took about 20 minutes to do internet recovery and then another 20 mins to TM restore about 45 GB over USB :)

Only thing, is on the 13" Retina the battery connector is screwed in with "hidden" screws - just need to move a plastic plate out the way and all was good :D

Well chuffed :D

Just to clarify, there are no user replaceable parts on the retina machines. You will void your warranty by doing so.

Of course, the user can replace the parts, but that doesn't mean they're user replaceable :p

Well done mate. Did you get the OWC in the end?

Quick question, do you have boot camp installed and if so can you check ahci and trim are still enabled?

Brilliant, might have to break out the credit card!
Glad about the tools as I bought a screwdriver and although advertised for the retina it was too small and would have chewed the screw heads which I didnt want to risk (1. for warranty and 2. its not like you can buy replacement screws should they fail)
