Own a Dog? Not microchipped?

Meh, We have a 17year old unchipped Jack Russell. We've never even come close to losing her and she's never had aggresive tendancies. She's half blind and deaf as a post now and I don't think I'll be putting her through the rigmarole of getting her chipped.

Every dog is labelled as dangerous. :/

I'm not a dog owner but I was aware of this, it's been on the news a little. I think it's a good idea.

It's been on the local radio here almost daily, local newspapers, national media etc. There's also many events for free pet chipping in the last few months.

Unless you avoid all forms of media it seems quite odd that people aren't aware by now.

The OP is a police officer (well, support/pcso type of thing?) So no surprise he was unaware of the changes in legislation.....or any laws for that matter :p

Sorry Burnsy ;)

thanks you just reminded me that my dogs chips are registered to my old address in west yorkshire ,need to sort that

Same got a 16 year old Jack Russell that has never wandered off or been even close to getting lost heck she wont even go more than 10 feet away from me, never once growled at another animal or person, shes not quite half blind and deaf yet though!

Had it not been for word of mouth from a family member id have not known about this either, if the authorities are going to make something like this mandatory and failure to do so is punishable then they should make an effort to notify registered dog owners as such.

And no i won't be getting her chipped.

They are making an effort, it's on BBC news too.

I can't understand why anyone wouldn't have their cat or dog chipped?

I've got two cats which are both microchipped, which I think should be a standard thing with cats and dogs.

All this talk of registered owners of dogs previously in this thread makes me wonder if they'll be coming with a V5 document (or perhaps more appropriately a K9 document!) containing various information such as number of previous keepers, bowel capacity, etc!
:D:D:D
I was thinking something like that DVLA for dogs, maybe DLC - dogs licensing center.

Tbf what kind of idiot wouldn't get their dog micro chipped in the first place.

Good pet owners will already have their cat/dog chipped.

Other owners won't care.

Not sure what this law achieves. Bad owners will ignore it anyhow.

About time. Common sense. Sensible, responsible dog owners have nothing to worry about. Not sure how they will get the ones that are the real problem.

However it does solve the simple case of lost dogs.

This thread is the first I have known about this new law, though all 3 of ours are chipped... To the person saying they will not put their do through this... Ours did not even react when it was done
