Well, when it comes to bad luck I am the man with his picture under Wiki for "Examples of Bad Luck"

I was buzzing today, been waiting ages for this game to appear, finally got my copy of MW2 for £26, then played the thing for couple of missions (when the Russian migs appear over USA) then my Xbox thinks "F' it, I’ll own this guy good and proper" and the does the funky green screen thingy where shades of green artefacts appear.

Just tried to check online with M$ if it’s under warranty but the system won’t show my details properly and wants me to ring the 0800 no. which shut at 10pm. anyhow it seems I am out by few months, build date is 2006/03/12, all Xbox had 3 years of warranty I think??

What are my options guys, has anyone ever got MS to fix their system just out of warranty? Money is tight now but if I buy a new system what should I watch out for? Not up to date on the entire Jasper thing.

Thanks in advance guys, sry long post bit p'ed and amused by bad luck

Snap, mine died just after the training!

None of the local supermarkets had any elite's, but I ordered one online which I should have tomorrow.

Don't worry, my 23.5 month old elite died on me tonight too! Switched it (hasn't been on for a few days), and 3 red lights with the green PS light illuminated.

Just booked it in via the service centre, my standard warranty had expired but fortunately for red ring issues you have 3 year extended cover. Estimation is 2-3 week turn around though!

Got mines back in 9 days :)

Will call ms first thing next morning,
just checked console again after cool off and it's dead, no graphics and got four rings too

This is weird. I thought i was just the unlucky one! Managed the update, played for an hour. Went to power it back on and four red lights. After around 30 reboots it came back.

My Worry is that i've owned it for just under 3 years!

Spoke to ms and it's out of warranty, the guy mentioned they would fix it for £80 plus 1 year warranty which I think is worthless as the DVD drive was playing up as well and unsure if they would fix that part too, think it's worth getting a new one which is hopefully more reliable, less noisy and has longer warranty period

It's just a feature of the last update, along with the console bans sales should be much better than expected this christmas. :p

Does the console give you 3 red lights now? If so, take it out of the chassis, disconnect all the internals, remove the heatsinks, wrap it up in tin foil (but not covering the main chips and the one positioned off to the side that is black and silver), and stick it in the oven at 230 degrees C for 6 minutes. Once done you can do the XClamp mod if you like (do a search here for it), or alternatively just stick it back in the case, plug everything back in and try it out. It should give you some more gaming for a while :)

Thanks....i'll see what MS say before i remove the warranty stickers.

It don't know if the oven fix will work for your console as you have 4 red lights. My post was directed at the OP, but perhaps someone here with more experience of the four red lights issue is able to shed some light on whether the oven fix works or not?
