Hello everyone!

As the title says really, I am just curious as to what sound cards does fit in this mobo due to the fact that accordingly to OcUK none of their PCI sounds cards that they have will fit my mobo! I just had to send back a Auzentech X-Fi Prelude to them because it wouldn't fit.. (some of you might have read my previous thread about me asking advice about speakers and sound card and already know about it..)

I a just a bit "goobsmacked" that my mobo, which at the time of my purchase, I thought would be compatible with anything in the market can't take a regular PCI soundcard, but a old one will fit?!?!?

Here is a picture of how it look like when I tried to fit the Prelude.. the case is a Silverstone TJ-09..

I would really like to find out what card that fits for you in your rigs with this same mobo, so that I can buy one! :)

Cheers

X-fi pci fits, as does the old digital Sound blaster 5.1 live pci, used both in my DS3R, any PCI should fit, looks like you need to move the card back a little.

But my graphic card fits perfectly where the mobo is right now.. and considering its more then a millimeter the card has to be adjusted I can't see how that would have worked.. and the old sound card I had was the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 which fitted without a problem! Thats why its so confusing that the Auzentech wouldn't fit..

Troop, may I ask what card you are using right now? Presuming you still have the DS3R mobo that is..

Cheers

Id say you hadnt got the risers under the mobo looking at that picture.

Ive got a PCI-E X-Fi above the GFX card and it fits fine.

Its not that I can't get a PCI card to fit in the PCI slot.. for some reason the PCI "pins" on the Auzentech card seems to be further away on the sound card then it is on the Creative Live card therefore I can't slot it in.. (the Live card fitted perfectly..) if you look at the left side of the picture you can see that the pins are resting against the bridge in the PCI slot and the backplate is right where it suppose to be but I can't push it down due to the fact that the "pins" is not in the right position to slot it in if you would compare it with the Live card..

The backplate is aligned with each other but the "pins" is not aligned above each other..

I have bought another sound card and will see if that fits in the board..

Yes that looks as if the bracket isnt fitted on the card correctly.

Do you have another PC you could see if it fits in?

No I don't and the card has been sent back to OcUK in any case.. waiting for the refund.. but as I mentioned what really surprised me is that the tech guy at the OcUK shop said that none of the sound cards they have will fit my mobo.. and thats like wtf?!?!?

May I ask what card you have in yours MeatLoaf? I'm not sure but it looks like a Creative version?

Whoever told you that none of the soundcards that they stock won't fit is talking rubbish. I have fitted an Asus Xonar in one of those motherboards and that was purchased from Overclockers.

I don't remeber the persons name but he answered OcUK's support line and thats what he told me, I actually asked if I could have the ASUS Xonar instead for a refund but he just said that my mobo wasn't compatible with the cards they stock. I did mentioned that the old Live card fitted and he replied with that its 4-5 yrs old and the card has changed since then.. but if that card fitted then a new one wouldn't.. something along those lines.. I wish I had wrote down excatly what he said though..

At least I know now that he was talking rubbish and I will see if I will have another talk with their support about this..

PS Peg, how is the Asus Xonar card?

PS Peg, how is the Asus Xonar card?

To be honest I was a bit underwhelmed by it. Its better than the onboard sound but I think its a bit overpriced.

Hmm I will sound like a complete n00b now but what is a ISA card? Is that another name for the PCI slot?!? Sorry for such a silly question! :o

Cheers
Tom

ISA was an old technology and has not been used for a while now. PCI is something different. I still don't understand why a tech would say that none of their soundcards fit in a GA-P35C-DSR.

Beats me too! I provided them with the picture I posted in the first post before I sent it back.. the person that replied to my web said that "it looks like a manufacturing fault with the sound card you have purchased." in the email, and also said I could RMA it.. the person I talked to today was not him though..

Might call back tomorrow and see if they let me talk to the guy that replied to the web note.

Thank you for explaining about the ISA, Peg! :)

Hi mate, sorry for the late reply, I am using the X-fi in one of the PCI slots.

No worries Troop, its not like I am in a rush with this.. well I am sort of but I have some patience.. lol In any case, the guy I wanted to talk with has been busy all day, seems like he is one of their main techs and he has not been able to take the phone at all.. hoping I can reach him early on Monday morning so I can get his opinion about this directly..

I appreciate all the help you guys have giving me, and your suggestions.. I now have a Trust sound card.. yeah I know very cheap but at least I could fit a PCI card other then one that is 4-5 yrs old! It has Digital and Optical in/outputs but so far I have not been able to get that to work.. just waiting to get the 6-Channel direct input cable which was missing from the box and hopefully I will then at least have an analog surround and then worry about the digital later on!

Must say the surround system is awesome through the DVD player though.. just watched xXx with Vin Diesel and the effect made me jump a few times through the movie! lol

Cheers
Tom
