Hello hello,

I am off to Oxford next Friday and I'll get there for 11ish and have until 5 or so.

What are the main things I should definitely see or do? I have wanted to go for a while as I've heard its lovely plus its en route to visiting a mate so thought may as well stop by.

Are you Driving bus or train?

i went to uni there 3 years and lived 3 more. You'll be pretty confined to the city centre and i hope it doesn't rain :P

Ashmoleon is well worth a few hours. Eagle and Child to have a drink where C.SLewis and Tolkien used to drink. The Bear is another good place for an "Oxford Drink". Christchurch tour if you can organise it is probably a must. A bus tour will be worth it, especially if the weather is good. Covered Market isn't what it used to be but still worth a visit, maybe pick a few bits and bobs to eat on the train home. Blackwells Bookshops on the Broad.

Maybe wander up to Jericho and have an expensive drink in the Jericho Tavern or better yet the Bookbinders Arms.

Sounds good! And approve of the drinking.

With the Christchurch tour, can you point me in the direction for the 'best' way to book?

That's a pretty much perfect guide tbh and not far walk from train to town center.

You dont have oodles of time a couple of hours at each place with 15min walks in-between is about right.

I've watched Endeavour and from what I can gather you need to walk through come sort of communal garden in the middle of the university, as that's what the local police appear to enjoy doing.

If you want a good hearty lunch The Nosebag on St Michaels Street opposite the Oxford Union is great. Canteen style they have lasagne or a stew maybe quiche plus jackets. But the star is some really great wholefood salads.
Failing that is Mission Burrito (assuming it's still there) also on St Michaels Street.

I could give you a guided tour of the Oxford City Trunk Sewer... I think it's boring as hell, personally, but we get a lot of interested parties wanting to come and look.
I can't take you below surface unless you have CP1 certification but the above-ground section does cover a lot of pretty areas, in both the city centre around the university and out in the same countryside that inspired the likes of Percy Shelley, Lewis Carroll, Oscar Wilde, CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien.
