Hi guys,

I recently purchased a OcUK Limited Edition P170EM with a 7970m and have had endless problems getting the switchable graphics to work. Totally at a loose end now and could use any advice you can offer.

The problem -
Certain games are not swapping from the intel graphics to the 7970m.
Crysis 1 and 2, Deus Ex and Hitman Absolution are examples of games which are running fine, really well actually!.

Tomb Raider, Guild Wars 2 and Tera are examples of games which are not switching, struggling to get above 12fps on Tomb Raider.

What seems to be happening is everytime I set a game to high performance in the switchable graphics option, as soon as I'm on the loading screen for the game the screen will flash - apparently switching back to the intel card and when the game has loaded up the performance is unplayable. When I then exit the game and check the switchable graphic option it has returned back to 'not assigned' ... every single damn time!!

What I have done so far -
Initially I tried to update the driver from the AMD website - when I use the autodetect tool it will error 'this driver is incompatible with your system - please use the driver from your manufacturer'.

Additionally I tried a direct download to the driver which installed - but everytime on bootup it will say 'catalyst control center has stopped responding' - I have tried this with a few installs and versions of the driver and it will crash upon start up every time.

I have tried to use the driver from the Clevo website - this also is not saving the graphic options - some games work - others don't.

Someone also suggested disabling the intel graphics card in the bios - it's not possible on a Clevo P170EM. You can disable the intel card on the device manager but it causes so many problems - really not an option.

Any advice would be very very much appreciated! I bought this machine in the illusion it would be a bit of beast. I wasn't fully aware of the switchable graphics system and deeply regret it.

You have to have both running since it uses the frame buffer of the intel chip to render the screen. One thing that I know worked for shogun 2 on my brother's laptop was to go into the config file and copy and paste the Nvidia card name into the detected graphics card box over the Intel one which was present. That may work if you've set it to force the use of the dedicated chip.
