P180 or v1000+ ?

I will be, I will use a third party temperature monitor (probably my TR3a) to do it.

Have to find the time, but have a system I can use that runs hot already and is very noisey so would be the perfect test candidate I think.

V1000+ with 2 x Akasa Ambers and the AC Freezer Pro to suit your processor will be as quiet as a church mouse keeping it's head down after a heavy night out.

The Antec is not a well made case in comparison, and it's very expensive for such a cheaply made case.

To paraphrase Carroll Shelby, If you want to make a really quiet PC, start out with one that's already quiet. In other words use known quiet components as your basis eg.

Samsung HDDs
Motherboards with only passive cooling for the various components
Large air volume cases
Use a few (2 or 3 at the most) large diameter fans, designed to move moderate amounts of air very quietly eg. Akasa Amber 120mm
Passively cooled PSU's

A case can only inefficiently suppress the noises within - as Yewen has said already, a noisy computer is a noisy computer no matter what case it's in.

ps. for those who don't know who Carroll Shelby is - he modified the rather weedy looking, but quick, AC Ace into the AC Cobra, the quick Ford Mustang into the stupidly quick Shelby Mustang and was a highly successful racing driver and is now a high successful fast car modder/designer.

"If you want to build a very fast car, start out with one that's fast already..."

Very very good comparison that I no doubt will steal when everyone forgets you came up with it.

He designed the GT40 as well didn't he? Which IMO is one of the best looking cars available. Good comparison though.

Eric Broadley = acording to google seems to be the GT40 designer.

You can imagine a gaming case using its profile as the front fascia, they did it with a Ferrari. :p

Just like to say thanks to everyone for very informative posts. And thanks to the Don's for clearing up the thread :)

Very good of you, as you could have just discarded the thread and be done with it.

My plans for a new rig have gone kappoey, so I'm just going to spruse up my current rig. The case I'm after will now be a lian li v1000+ :)

Hopefully should be in for a quiet ride, my hiper type r has a low rpm quiet fan, have a sammy spinpoint and a passivly cooled mobo. Will sort out the fan on my 7800gt and cpu and hopefully will be much quieter than now, with a spanky new case to replace me 10quid 2 year old broken thing :)

Thanks again guys.

When I get the case (maybe a month or so yet now) I'll defo post some pics. I'm quite a wiremanagement freak, hate having things showing when they dont need to be. :)

Also, nice job on taking this totally off topic. Good old ocuk.

Oi!

Your copying my old rig. :p

Good combo, the Hiper makes a bit of noise. I ended up replacing the GPU HSF with a Zalman VF700 then VF900. The PSU is now a Seasonic.

Works well, the cables on the Type-R are just the right length for cable tidying too.

(Obviously this picture was taken on first boot of my rig and I was checking it all worked!)
