Just assembled new PC. The case has a Abit IP35 in it. I have plugged the case AC97 cable into the motherboard along with the USB one. The front USB works fine, windows detects a pen drive put in there. But I can't get sound from the audio jack. I have checked tehe settings in Realtek Sound Manager and made sure the front panel connectors are active and turned up.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Do your speakers/headphones work on the main motherboard ports (i.e. on the back panel)?

Sorry if you know this already, the P182's front audio ports are dual AC'97 and HD audio, and though I don't know the specifics of the Abit IP35 I see it has the ALC888 HD codec. I think some boards have seperate headers for AC'97 and HD front panel audio, or some have a single header and different pinouts for different connectors.

If you've plugged the AC'97 cable of the P182 into the mobo header, but have HD audio enabled in software, then the front ports won't work. You need to make sure the cables are connected for the right format you wish to use and that that format is enabled in software. Also check the BIOS and if there is an option for Front Panel Audio make sure it is enabled.

My G33M mobo's front panel HD audio output wouldn't work with the original case I put it in, but I got an Antec Sonata 3 that had HD output and that was fine.

Of course, all this might be academic, and you might have a faulty case!

I've just taken delivery of a P182 and new Gigabyte P35C board an hour ago so hopefully audio will be okay on that :)

I just thought i'd add a little note on the end of here...

On the IP35 board, the setup is defaulting for the HD audio. It can be changed within windows using the Realtek software...
- go to the "Audio I/O Tab"
- go to the connector settings (small icon of a wrench)
- check the box "Disable front panel jack detection"

you should now have AC97 audio form the front panel of your box.
