So i got the Samsung P2450 24 inch LCD monitor.
After my delivery being held up by the weather over here, i decided to pick the monitor up today form the depot, didnt have to wait long.

Got home, set up the monitor, and bam, i realise that it doesn't have built in speakers, at first i didnt realise then i saw that it only had audio out.

So im going to have to purchase some speakers soon.
Kinda frustrated as it doesn't mention it on product page, nor do any of the reviewers. Any one know any good, but not expensive set of speakers?

Also, ive got a choice out of DVI, VGA or HDMI, which of these do you think i should use?

DVI would be my choice, depends what you're connecting it to though I guess.

The good news is any speakers you buy will sound better than built ins so you can go with pretty much anything in your budget.

If you look on the technical specifications on most retailer sites, you should be able to see that the P2450H doesn't have speakers, built-in speakers are usually bad anyway.

If you want some very cheap but reasonably decent 2.0 speakers, then look for the Logitech X-140, which can be currently bought for £14.17 if you shop around. I bought them for my sister for her laptop and they sound OK to me.

If you're connecting the monitor to your PC then just use DVI, providing your graphics card has it.

That is a shame that you didn't realise that - but it is standard. PC monitors on the whole don't come with built-in speakers (in fact a large proprtion don't have HDMI audio pass-through), as these are usually reserved for TVs, so in product descriptions it is normal to not mention anything about speakers unless they are included.

Anyway, even if you did go for a ~£200 monitor with speakers they would only be poor quality, 2 watt ones - so not particularly great.

These are the speakers I would go for - really nice for the price and many times better than built-in speakers.

As for the connection, I would go with either DVI or HDMI, whichever you have a cable for - the picture quality will be the same between them. I would probably pick DVI for the PC as it leaves the HDMI free for the use of a HDMI device.

Thanks guys for the response, i should have known i know :),

.

They look very nice, defintely will be getting some speakers in a couple of days, maybe a sound card instead of using onboard.

Anyway, im off out, and once again, thankyou all very much.

Well, just have to say, that I'm completely puzzled as to how anybody can use built in speakers, even if they are just using the computer for casual listening/watching/gaming.
If you ever change to real loudspeakers (or even computer speakers with a bass booster) I can't see how anybody would ever go back :)

(I used the speakers of my Asus laptop when I was on exchange studies - when I did not use headphones - so I realize you CAN do it if you really have to and it can be okay :P).

Very true!

Speakers are added additions to monitors nowadays they don't come standard and never really have so its something they would say if it did have them :P definitely go for DVI and grab your self a nice 5.1 surround set up your notice the difference :D
