overclocking a 10 year old CPU ? and spending money on it ? I just don't see why anyone would.

Hi Mame,

I got the PC's from work for free ( well, pretty much ). I was hoping I wouldn't have to spend much on a board and It's just a bit of fun really. I got both my gaming rig and my media centre overclocked nicely and don't have any money to upgrade them so I though I'd play around with what I've got.

I don't think you'll have much luck with finding anything, as it's probably been chucked by now! You could try the members market if you have enough posts, someone may have something old, otherwise go to the bay.

In comparision to the latest generation of processors which normally clock quite well out of the box (Overclocks of 500mhz to 1Ghz+, clocking a Pentium 3 in this day and age is pretty pointless.

You may get a 100-200mhz speed increase but thats it and will be limited to the processors FSB and SD 133mhz RAM.

:)

No point over clocking such crap parts really.

That said, the final revision of the P3B-F was incredibly stable when clocked. My 'old faithful' PC is still running a 700@850. Which it has been doing from day one for about 8 years.

Thanks for the advice. Might just give it a miss then. Was only suppose to be a bit of fun and keep me occupied until I can afford a new rig.
