Hi all Ive been trying to clock my DS3P P35 all morning and whatever I put in the board resets itself to to 266x9 even if I try 267 or 265 it beeps twice at restart and defaults back to 266. Am I missing something really stupid or have I got a problem?

P35DS3P,Q6600,OCZ8500,GTS8800,Enermax720

PS Everything is running fine at stock no problems at all.

just a guess but is it a new build? try re seating the heatsink on the cpu and switch the memory around in the slots then reset bios to default and try again.

Yeah its a new build m8 but everything is running fine but only at stock (Vista is on and several games + runs Orthos fine as well) its just the bios wont boot with any changes to the cpu frequency even ones that are lower. But Ill sure give your suggestions a go :)

Not being condescending here....but once you have entered the new value are you using the option to Save & Exit (I'm sure you are, but just checking)? :)

Yes m8 I am it will save other settings such as memory, pci all the usual stuff it just wont allow me to change the fsb. What actually happens is after I Save and Exit the computer shuts off comes back on and beeps once then shuts off again comes back on and beeps twice and loads into windows but with any changes Ive made to the fsb reset back to 266x9. Its like its trying to recover from a bad overclock but that just cant be right with such a minimal change as from 266 to 260 can it?

Ive tried m8 no joy... It seems its whenever I change the fsb I can change the mutil but any change to fsb be it higher or lower disables overclocking :(

Ok have you disabled intel speedstep? set the pci express to 101 and set the voltages manually?
check what voltage you memory is also check the stock voltage on your cpu and set that.
set you memory dividers im unsure what they are on your boared but if its anything like mine you want it set as low as you can so you can push the cpu hard 1:1 usually is best.
ts best to manually lock everything to its own default frequency first and start your overclock then as things become unstable you know it is down to the fsb increase and then you can tweak other system settings to get the stability you need.
also set the fan options to legacy and theres one other i just cant put my finger on the name someone can jump in and let you know

Not sure about the P35 chipset, but with my board (see sig) giving the MCH voltage a tweak to +0.1 gave me the stability I was after

Naud

Yeah but its not unstable it just refuses to run at anything other than 9x266, it wont run at 9x267 or 9x265 not anything other than stock:(

Im at a loss now Ive tried everything so I guess Im stuck its just wierd i cant even get it to run 1mhz slower than stock.....

Ive cleared the cmos and reflashed the bios but the same thing still happens.

Yeah Ive tried it m8 and I just tried the F5 bios as well but no joy I am really begining to think its a faulty board :(

did you lock the pcie at 101 and set all voltages like i said i know your stressed but when i say this gives stability im not saying it for your benefit just explaning why people do it i suggest you set all voltages ram/cpu/northbridge pcie slot etc: and give that a go im confident such an iffy error cant be down to much id happily trade my bored and cpu or one or the other put it that way.

Yes M8 Ive tried everything imaginable it simply will not change from 2.4 ghz either slower or faster on stock or upped volts. Everything else in the bios I can change and will take effect but as soon as save and exit the bios after changing bus speed it reboots twice and reverts back to 266.

hmm nothing more i can really suggest as the mobo would probably be fine if you drop say a e2140 which has a fsb of 200.
has the mobo got any fsb jumpers that you know of is there anything in the motherboard Manuel (you have read this?)
only other thing i can suggest and this has no bearing on hardware but sometimes makes al the difference and im sure people on these forums can vouch for this is strip the machine down to all its bare components back to what it was like before you built it.
rebuild it double checking everything if this doesn't work rma it and i hope you have better luck mate i honestly do its a strange problem

Had the battery out all night but no difference at all still cold boots whenever the bus speed is altered. I may keep this MB for a couple of months and see what the X38 chipset has to offer because I just cant be bothered with RMAing it and It does software clock just fine.

Hi mate....i have one of these boards and yes they can be abit touchy at times...sometimes the overclock will take...sometimes it reboots and resets. Try uping the FSB by 10 each time...if it resets...try uping up 10 again, there are holes sometimes where it won't like it..then you up the FSB and it's fine...just give it ago...got mine upto 495 on 1.45vcore

Thanks for all the help btw guys. Does yours reboot twice James once with one beep and then again with 2 beeps when your setting doesnt take?
