I'm strongly considering updgrading my E4500 to an E7200. Firstlly, do people thhink this is worthwhile? My 4500 is currently at 2.8ghz, and I could probably gett it much higher if I bought a Freezer 7 (my stock cooler has a big scratch along the bottom). I don't bench, only game.

Second, do 45nm chips work with rev 1.1 P35C-DS3Rs? Do they need a BIOS flash to work, or do they work right off the bat?

The rest of my rig is a 3850 OC, and 2GB PC6400 Geil Black Dragon RAM.

Personally i would clock the E4500 further (should hit 3-3.4Ghz at least) and upgrade the graphics card. You will more than likely see a bigger boost that way.

If you do decide to go for a 45nm cpu then you need bios version F11 here. It's always worth getting the latest bios anyway as they usually fix bugs as well as supporting new cpu's.

Kind of what I was thinking to be honest. Need a new HSF though, my dad decided to "help" me build my PC, and in trying to get off some thermal paste used the end of a screwdriver rather than isopropyl, leaving some nice big grooves! It does the job OK, but I cant up the volts. Fool!

That's exactly the one I have been looking at getting! Actually, I've been looking for somebody whos brains I can pick. I was largely wondering how quiet it was. All I really want is something noticeably quieter than the Intel one, which can perform as well at the very least. The Intel isn't particularly loud, but it emits a fairly high pitched whine which I find pretty annoying! How quiet is the AK 965? Also, is it easy to fit? I assume it is just Intel's standard pins...

Noise wise id say its quiet as i cant hear it over the rest of my system, and its dead easy to fit, uses the same pins as the intel cooler and you can remove the fan as well to make installing it easier then clip it back on after.

And dont forget the nice blue glo you get :D

Haha, thankfully my case has no window-I dont think that that blue glow will go all that well with my Black Dragon's red eyes...

Think I will order next week. Nobody knows when the free delivery for forum members ends do they?

Ordered :) Hopefully will arrive on Wednesday so I'll let you know how it goes. Is there anything else I ought to know when changing HSFs? Aside from turning the PC on for a little while so the old heatsink doesnt stick to the CPU...
