Its a dell pc that im putting the chip into(intel 845 chipset) with the latest bios. It only supports chips up to 3.06ghz and 512k of cache. I have bought a 1mb cache chip which doesnt run at full speed in that board due to the extra cache it cant use. If anyone wants to swap let me know.
Cheers for your replies i appreciate them. The bios of the board doesnt give me the option of enabling hyper-threading like it should(it is the latest and only official bios), the bios also only displays that the chip has 512k of cache which is what made me think that the chip wasnt compatible with the board. The actual cpu speed is 1.6ghz with no option of changing it, although the fsb is at 533mhz which is the max the board supports and the chip is a 533 one. Booting into windows the cpu is displayed as a 3.06ghz chip but again the actual speed is 1.6ghz and its displayed as a single core in windows task manager.
