Hello,

Will pc2100 RAM work with a p4 3ghz 800fsb processor? I have just aquired the cpu as a cheap upgrade and wondered if my current RAM will work with it or would I be better with some pc3200?

Thanks

Dave.

It will work on a divider no problem. You'd have to set that in the bios of your motherboard. (DDR266)
However, for optimum performance some PC3200 (DDR400) would be better, and doesn't cost a lot these days.

Unfortunately with the release of DDR2 and both the main sockets using it the price of DDR has been increasing :( i.e geil value 2x512mb is £82, I paid £50ish about 8 months back. Even OCuk value is £68

2x512mb of Kingston VR can be had for under 50 quid if you know where to look.

Yep it's a fact that DDR RAM is becoming steadily more expensive, because it's not being manufactured in as big quantities as before, and it's also not being purchased in as big quantities by suppliers.

DDR2 prices have become competitive to encourage people to upgrade; the continuous upgrade cycle is what keeps the PC industry moving ;)

Looks like I better try get some DDR asap. Technology is moving so fast!. I am upgrading to this p4 3ghz from an athlon xp1600. I know its nowhere near the latest technology but hopefully be a nice boost.
