P4 478 prob

hi, im kinda new to all this modifying computers. I recently brought a 478 P4 3.0Ghz processor for my computer. Put it into my computer powers up but theres no display on the monitor, does anyone have any ideas? thx

You made sure you have all the are wires plugged in/correct places?

yes, ive done that, someone said that i may have to alter my BIOS but as i dont know anything about that, i didnt want to tamper with it

*Info= Motherboard/Memory/Previous CPU that worked and any other info you feel may be useful . . .

Drop the FSB to 133(533), it may be set to auto detect. It sounds like a prescott you have and it may not work in your board without a bios update.

I had this problem. I dropped in a Willamette P4 and the board was fine. My prescott is an 800FSB one and the board would not work stably at this speed with a prescott even though it's compatible. Mine didn't display anything when it was on autodetect fsb.
