Hi all,
Managed to find a new Socket 478 P4 for my old P4P800S SE mobo. The CPU ordered was identified as an SL7E4 processor, with D0 core stepping. What's arrived is a VERY similar, 3GHz 1MB cache, 800FSB, but this time with a G1 core stepping. From the specs on the Intel site, this appears to be the only difference.
Can anyone shed any light on whether this matters at all, and confirm that the mobo will support it?
The BIOS on the board is at rev 1006, which supports the 3GHx, 800FSB of the SL7E4. There is a beta BIOS, 1007, on the ASUS site which supports the G1 core at 3.4 GHz, but I couldn't determine if this is because of the higher clock speed, or the differing core?
ASUS website isn't very revealing....any thoughts welcome.
