Hi All,

I'm currently overclocking my P4 2.8GHz 512kB 533MHz northwood processor @ 3.31GHz. The MOBO is a P4i65G ASrock with 2GB crucial memory (2.5,3,3,7)

The Vcore is being set by the MOBO and is currently 1.6v (BIOS and speedfan)

The idle CPU temp is 29'C and full load using Prime95 is 47'C (stable with no errors for just over an hour). I'm using the onboard graphics and scores 3169 on 3DMark.

How do you rate this setup and how long do you think it will last overclocking.

Cheers

Rob :)

Claimed!

Pretty old and slow compared to newer tech out, not bad for an overclocking project though.

At 1.6v not too long, greater chance of electron crossover developing. What you cooling it with?

Hi Will,

It's being cooled by a Arctic Cooling 4.

The Vcore is at 1.6v even at stock 2.8GHz (always has been, owned this computer for over a year from new)

Cheers

Rob

Oh is it? :D

Sorry didn't realise never owned a P4 personally, keep the temps and voltages reasonable and it should be fine for overclocking.

at 1.6v you could push that just a bit more and squeeze a little more MHz outta that P4, there old tech and run quite hot anyway, and not even going over 50oc load is great, aslong as you keep it under 70oc @ load you would be fine.

and try intel burn in test for at least 20+ loops to make sure th OC is solid mate.

Hi Will,

Cheers for the quick replies. I know this is an old rig but (touch wood it keeps going) its great for surfing the net. Thats all I use it for, hence no graphics card - games are left to the xbox and Wii.

Cheers

lol. It would be interesting to see how a P4 overclocked on a newer P45 board or something! Imagine, P4, P45, TRUE + push/pull! :P

Yeah makes the tea and stuff, get them at their first post ;) :p

If it still does what you want all good :)

In that case, no need to oveclock at all I'd have thought. 2.8 is plenty fast enough for web surfing
