P5B Delux Reporting Temps Incorrectly

Greetings,
Thought I would give a P5B a play and compare it to the DS4 and P5W DH.

I have an issue at the momemnt where the Motherboard is reporting the CPU temp incorrectly. Its over reading by about +5'c which is a real pain because the Automatic Fan control is permantely on high for the CPU and won't control. I have used the CoreTemp program and that reports the temps correctly. Anyone else having a problem?

I must say I am extremely unimpressed about the amount of testing the goes on before releasing a board / Bios.

I'm using the lastest Bios off the website and I am using my monster 6300 which worked fine in my DS4

Yep, my P5B does the same. It's almost like it over reads to be on the safe side with the Q-Fan Utility.

What I did was select the Ignore CPU Fan Speed option so I didn't get the warning message about slow fan speeed at boot up, and set the Q-Fan speed to the quietest option. (I could do this on the P5B at any rate)

Even at 1100 rpm, it still cooled the CPU ok, and was quiet too.

Currently got the cpu fan running at 7 volts via the psu.

I tried setting the speed to quiet but it didnt make any difference to the fan speed. I assumed the higher temp was overriding the quiet setting.

Its over reading on mine by 5'c

Just a quick reply as I NEED some sleep.

Out of interest, I was just having a browse around about this issue, as no matter what I do with my P5B/E6600 the fan never goes above 860rpm!

I'm not complaining, as I simply can't hear it, but even after many hours running video encoding, the CPU so far has hit a max of 53deg, with the fan still happily at 860rpm. This is running the Q-Fan in Performance mode... also tried the other modes, but all the same, 860rpm (with the exception of switching Q-Fan off, and it's 2000 odd rpm - can't be more precise, I'm not at the machine right now, as it's busy video encoding again)

I also had the CPU FAN ERROR after post, but I see there's a new BIOS available, as of today, with... I'll post what's new below my post.

I've come from a P4P800 running a 3GhzHT P4, and I used Q-FAN on that too, but used to run at around the 2,000 RPM mark at idle.

Still, after a week or so of running, no ill effects seem to have happened to my system, so I guess running at a max of 860RPM is cooling the CPU sufficiently. I'm damned impressed anyway! Really, I can't hear it, and with a silent Antec PSU too, all I hear are the HDDs! When the CPU is idle, the fan runs at 820rpm btw, and increases in steps until it gets to 860RPM, so it appears Q-FAN is working!

V1N.

@ tooks

same here as well, i,m running Asus P5B with E6600 and Arctic cooling 7 pro, and my idle temps are:

cpu= 42c
mb= 37c using the fan that came with it

load
cpu= 53c
mb= 46c

the fans using q fan performance mode

cpu hsf= 508rpm
chassis fan 1 = 1132 rpm
fan2 (small one you get withthe board) = 2556 rpm
fan 3 = 1110 rpm

and i too get fan error at post so i set it to ignore.

wouldnt mind getting my cpu fan to 1000 rpm

thanks

Hi ATI.

I'm not sure what you're asking me here, but I think I might be being a little thick! :)

I think you're asking how you get your fan up to 1100rpm?

Check out my post from a short while back...

That's what I was getting fan speed wise with my setup, so I'm a bit puzzled why yours is different.

Mind you, these early 965 boards seem to be anything but consistent in there behaviour, so that probably explains it!

If I've got the wrong end of the stick, then let me know! :)
