P5B Deluxe onboard sound?

I have just upgraded to an E6600, 2 Gig OCZ and a P5B Deluxe, I still have my Audigy 2 sound card from my old system and normally run a 5.1 speaker system via the coax.

Is it worth putting the Audigy 2 back in or use the onboard sound? A third option might be to buy a more up to date sound card. I mainly use my system for gaming. Any thought or views would be appreciated. Thanks :)

One word. X-fi.

the onboard sound is rubbish..... It crackles and goes wrong, and the drivers are just as poor.

Use it for the input of my mic and it works every other time i log onto a css server, sounds pretty naf !

The vista soundmax drivers are fine with no crackling. I wouldn't call it "rubbish".

I believe i'm on the latest Soundmax drivers, with Vista 64, and it still crackles with my 5.1 speakers. Is there a Vista update i need to download to fix this problem?

Not all onboard sounds are rubbish. The recently demised N7 Sonic Storm was highly regarded and the current Sigmatel onboard sound on Intel motherboards is also quite good.

Two days ago I fitted an Auzentech Prelude and am very happy with it. I use XP and was very pleased by the ease of the installation (using Creative drivers minus bloatware) and by the sound quality through my 5.1 AV system.

Why don't you have a little browse to see if the Prelude is for you. The Asus Xonar is also getting some good reviews but I know nothing about that one.
