Hi all,

My first post here so go gently with me. Now to the problems:-

I finally ordered bundle BU-043-OK last week after reading the forums here for quite a while, said bundle arrived safely Monday this week. I have assembled the system along with a cnps8000 Zalman cooler.

The board looks very nice but i have come accros some very irritating problems which were not highlighted anywhere in reviews of this board - namely that if you install the high definition sound drivers the boot up slows down to an absolute crawl.Ther are apparently also issues with the jmicron sata controller drivers which i believed you needed to install for running two ide devices. By the way you don't actually need the jmicron drivers as windows xp installs it's own drivers - but you don't see the controller listed as jmicron in device manager - this info might be helpfull to others.

Anybody care to give me some feedback and possible solutions to the sound driver problems - i have downloaded the updated drivers from Asus - but still same problem. At the moment i am running without sound, but can always chuck a sound card in as the onboard is now disabled grrr!

Sorry for the long post - needed to get this off my chest, lastly has anybody got any specific tips for overclocking this board, and can you tell me what the temps should be for a Conroe 6600 runnig at stock?

Any help or info much appreciated - will get around to doing my sig later

cheers

Mark

Hi,

I wouldn't bother with the high def audio - drivers are rubbish - do a search in google u will see the probs peeps are having, also Asus forums have lots of unhappy peeps with this issue.

Good luck

Hi Cob,

Thanks for your input - much appreciated.Shame none of the other owners of this board have responded. Wading my way through the long list in your link.

Hi, I also had the same slow booting problem due to the poor SoundMAX drivers.

A guy on XS has posted a link to a leaked driver which has cut boot times in half for me.

"It is not the full install package. To install it you must go to device manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers. Then you must right click on SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio , then click on update driver and then browse to the location of the downloaded driver..."
