Any of you knowledgeable chaps know of any definite fix for the P5b reverting the PCI-E bus to x1 (instead of x16) ?

A few months back with my X1900 XT I never had any problems with the bus reverting to x1.

Since I plugged my 8800 GTX in I sometimes find the bus has switched to x1 speed.

This never seems to occur after a cold boot, but if I restart my rig then it more often than not reverts to x1.

I have CPU-Z permanently set to start-up on windows boot now to check the PCI-E bus/lane speed as I am paranoid about it !!!!

Any hints/tips etc ?

There was a fix for this a while back.. just slipping my mind at the moment. Have you tried the latest BIOS and all that? It might have been fixed.

Thats an 'old' problem, read about it before but never encountered it myself. Have you tried updating your BIOS?

I remember reading the problem was something to do with either the NB volts or SB volts being to high (or was it to low?) can't remember the details but its either that or the BIOS.

I seem to remember reading something where the fix was to increase the PCI-E bus frequency 1-2Mhz, after which it would sync fine.

Yep that's what fixes it for me. Though I'm not sure if it's been fixed with newer revisions as I'm still using v0804.
