Far far away....
I am struggling to push my 6600 over 3GHz.

I have tried various setting but basically 375 x 8 is the highest stable setting I have reached.

With almost every other multiplier/FSB combination the overclock is unstable.

My BIOS setting are as follows.

try re setting the heatsink

Is a real blag in my case as the motherboard is mounted upside down so I can't get my hand in to release the clips. To do it the motherboard has to come out!

Saying that,it has been reseated and it appeared that there was good contact as the "grain" of Arctic Silver compound had been spread evenly when i took it of.

I think I'm going to order the Antec P182 anyhow.

From the front to the Scythe I have a 120mm fan drawing air in, the Scythe fan is blowing through the heatsink out through the back with another fan drawing air out.

Is there any intake fans?

Usually a nearby outtake fan is enough but I am trying to find out why your chip is so toasty compared to mine.

As a point of interest, what is your idle temp at stock speed with stock volts? I remember my E6600 was at around 30C at stock idle.

Idle at stock speed was definitely low to mid 30's no more.

Case temp is reported as 35'c according to Speedfan.

Not sure what is going on then. All I can suggest is a reseat :p

Pain in the arse I know but if it fixes your temps then its all good.

I am going to get the Antec P182 so I can do it then!

I have just put everything into the P182 with a Noctua Noctua NH-U12F and I am still getting load temps of 60'c

The fan is blowing through the fins of the heatsink to the roof of the case and then a fan is sucking air out through the vent.

Right this is beginning to cheese me off now.

I have put everything back to stock, re seated the cooler, cleaned and reapplied Arctic Silver 5 and under load I am getting temps of.......

48 -49'c !!!

Idle temps are 37 - 39'c.

I am 100% sure looking at the CPU and cooler that the contact is good, the covering of Arctic Silver is even.

I have never had the stock cooler fitted but with the Scythe and the Noctua temperatures both at stock and overclocked have been on a par, this also goes for idle/load temperatures. The temperatures withe the Scythe and Noctua are consistent.

Based on that I am guessing:

Not fitted both the Scythe and Noctua heatsinks correctly on several occasions.
The reported temperature is wrong.
The CPU IHS is concave.

Probably both these IMO.

Doubt you could fit it wrong that many times, unless you have never fitted a HSF before, and even then, id doubt it.

I think I will order a lapping kit.

I have just just set the vCore to 1.2v and turn both exhuast fans to full in the Antec P182. Aso the window is open and the PC is directly under that window.

The result, idle temp now at.....

39'c !!!!
