Ok so I bought a nice 92mm YS Tech fan the other day off the MM for my HR-05.

I install it and all is good! Later that day my puter suddenly locks up. wtf mang, its been stable for ages.

So I downclock to 2.8ghz and it still locks up again. Put it ALL to stock....run prime95 blend...it locks up.

I then switch over to my e6300 processor.....run prime95 blend @ stock and it locks up as well....I then remove the fan and now I'm priming at 450fsb with no problems.

Could the 92mm fan be drawing too much power from the mobo and causing the system to be unstable? I mean it's only rated at .16A and I run it about 55% fanspeed!

WTF!

Could the fan have a short? Can you test it with a multimeter?

What about connecting to a different header to eliminate the fan?

Two things that spring to mind,

1) Has the weight of the 92mm fan effected how well the HR-05 is fitted to the chipset? could it be making the surface contact poor because its tilting away?

2) Have you run the fan direct from the PSU bypassing the motherboard?

Well I have connected it to a different fan header (chassis_fan3) so we'll see if it locks up.

And it's not even mounted on the HR-05....it's resting against a WC pipe and the GFX card blowing at the HR-05 and RAM
