p5k help needed!

Ok got a new p5k got everything in fine boots up fine gets to my windows login fine. Only problem is the disk drive doesn't seem to work. When it's plugged in it doesnt seem to register as being there (tray wont open no lights etc) if I unplug the connection to the mobo its fine again tray opens etc but that's fairly useless.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I'm not sure about the device manager because I can't get onto windows as its asking me to validate after I've put in my password and I get validate on the internet because the mobo aint installed and I cant get the internet on through it, its not showing up in the bios boot priorty bit. Its a NEC ND3540 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter so its in the IDE slot at the bottom

Found a thread on here about a similar problem and a fix was to remove the USB connection from your case. Tried that and the drive is now detected and works straight off. Seems abit strange to me just need to find a proper fix for it now so I can have my USB slots back.
