Hi,

Yesterday i received my goods, Q6600, ASUS P5KC MB, Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB 1066Mhz. All values at bios are set to default. When i boot from CD to install vista, it takes around ten whole minutes to get to the language selection screen and then a further 10 minutes to get to the drive selection area. Its almost as if the PC is waiting doing nothing. I am using a SATA 500GB HDD 7200RPM from Hitachi.

Any ideas? In the end i managed to install vista but i receive many blue screens, memory dump error.

Is this a ram issue? CPU has not been overclocked yet, ram timmings is set to auto.

Any help would be appreciated. Is this a motherboard issue?

Graphics Card: PNY GeForce 8500 GT 512MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express)
Power Supply: OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2
CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler

I've tried everything, tried an IDE hdd, same problem. I removed one of the memory sticks, still same problem. I tried to set the ram to DD2 1066Mhz and it wouldn't allow it. It is defaulting to DD2 800Mhz.
Tried flashing the motherboard, it is now at the latest 804 revision, still no change. Also tried resetting the cmos, again to no avail. Desperate now, only thing i can think of is faulty ram?

Thanks,
Tom

Hey,

No not yet i am at work at the moment but that was the next thing i was going to try. Could that be the problem that is making the pc so slow? I'm just worried that it might be the motherboard which is acting funny. I am going to try later to input the timmings in manually and if that doesnt work i am going to test it with another ddr2 ram module i have at home.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Many thanks,
I definately hope this solves the problem. Never had any issues on installs this is my first one, its also the first time ive installed these pc2 8500 memory modules so hopefully this should be the case. I'll keep you posted when i try it out

The actual installation is not slow. The only thing that goes slow is when the install is starting up. Before i get to the language select option and then again before getting to the partition select option, after that it seems to go fine, but once windows is installed i get the blue screens with memory dump errors.
