Hi

I'm really a total noob so handle with care.

I've just upgraded my memory to G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400C4 (2x2GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK)

The 2 DIMM's are installed on the black sockets and I manually changed the settings to 4-4-4-12 and 2.085 volts and DDR of 800mhz but the system just won't boot unless I change the speed to 667mhz (I've checked to make sure that because it's DDR2 I shouldn't have it at 400Mhz...)

I've got a 750W PSU, E6700 at stock, 8800 GTX at stock.

Can ayone help please? Is there a know BIOS upgrade I should use for example?

Thanks

The P5N-E used to have an issue running four 1gb sticks at 800mhz, but it usually worked at 820-840mhz for some reason. I'm pretty sure a BIOS update fixed it.

Try something between 820mhz and 840mhz to see what happens. But update the BIOS anyway.

God knows how but I eventually got it working - it may even have been as simple as setting the TRRD to 2.

I also upgraded my BIOS to 0608 - now when my PC boots up it freezes on the BIOS launch page and I have to reset it at which point it boots up fine but I can't get into the setup screen for BIOS no matter when I press Delete.

Should I upgrade to the latest (BETA) version?

Thanks

Very common with this board after a BIOS update. If you clear the CMOS, that should fix it
