P5N-E SLI & E660 OC'd Heat Issues?

Im a bit concerned about the amount of heat im getting from my heatsink on the mobo.

My cpu is overclocked to 3Ghz

E6600

But even prior to that i get massive ammounts of heat from the motherboard.

My CPU runs fine at around 37-40oc solid but if I feel around or touch the mobo HS its VERY scorching hot, according to my temps on my mobo software it says its at 35oc but it feels about 200oc lol

Is this common for this board? or should i be very worried?

voltages are as follows, if this helps...

+5.0 = 4.86V
12v = 12.10V

Also for the E6600 what is a suitable heat? My previous AMD's iv had used to run VERY hot, like 50+ on load but this is my first Intel ...

Theres a main thread covering this.

Its normal, the temp you see is more indicative of the Southbridge temp to the SE of that chip. I have measured the NB temp and its roughly 120F at its highest reading, the actual chip no doubt runs hotter but the computer will reset if it gets too hot.
Dont worry too much, Ive got it at 1.7v and it hasnt burnt out yet.

Ive had a 6400 reading 76c on coretemp yesterday and it was fine. Anywhere upto 65c is within spec afiak, current idle at 1.5v +100mv is 53c

Ok thanks, I was just worried as iv not had a mobo that felt that hot before. Usualy have fans on also.

btw

iv got 4 sticks of geil ram in there... they all have heatsinks on but they are also getting very hot, i think its due to 4 of them all being right close to each toehr, its like a solid block of heat..

are there sort of fans or anything that can be clipped above them to cool them or will they also be fine?

I just ran FEAR for a good few hours on max settings so test my system, breezed it and also my temp only went to

CPU 45oc
MB 49oc

Im using a thermaltake shark case, arctic freezer 7 pro on the cpu with arctic silver 5

Im not one for spending a lot of money on pc's but recently have and want to get the most out of it, however not looking to break it in the process :P

Just been snooping aroudn and seen the extra coolers on the site.. would i be good in buying either of these?

for NB:

Noctua NC-U6 Dual Heatpipe Northbridge Cooler

For memory:

OCZ XTC Memory Cooler

For Case:

Akasa System Exhaust Blower

And would these all fit?

The NB cooler could be good, I would just use fans for the other two.
How did you manage to get the MB temp above the cpu temp lol

The m/b temp really suffers if there is not a decent airflow over the s/b, i have had mine up to 52 before, a small fan directed at the s/b dropped the m/b temps by 23 degrees under the same load conditions.

The Thermalright HR-05 is worth considering, it has very good reviews and is a little cheaper than the noctua.

Stick a fan over the NB and a fan over the ram. The P5N-E NEEDS airflow over the NB sink.
Single well placed 120mm will cover both ram and sink.

Im about to order the Thermalright HR-05 now... but I have another queestion.

This P5N-E SLI board, the NB HS is very big... and i have an arctic silver 7 pro in there...

this artcic 7 pro is big and it goes slightly over the top of the NB heatsink... i had to slightly bend 3 of the very bottom corner fins up and cut away at the corner of the plastic fan to get it to fit on and clip to the CPU without getting snagged ontop of the NB HS...

Looking into the case the HS of the freezer 7pro is VERY close if not in-line with 1 of the 2 clips witch hold the NB HS down to the mobo...

Somehow I can see me not getting this to fit in along with the freezer 7 pro :(

Theres no way of adding a 120mm fan to blow against the mobo as the shark doesnt have a place for one...

it has 120mm bottom front and 120mm top back under the PSU.. thats it.. and a mesh type window pain for the side panel...

If i was to somehow glue a 120mm fan to that sidepanel again it would be pushing against the top of the freezer 7 pro hehe

any suggestions? just want this NB and my memory cooled, and which memory cooer would you suggest?

I have a P5n-e sli, Scythe ninja and the HR-05 fits ok so you should be ok. You also have the advantage of having enough room on the lower side of the HR-05 to fit a fan to increase the cooling.

Nice :P

You aint done anything to the NB, im guessing the temp has dropped due to there being nothing around it? and fans blowing directly on it?

How you get them 2 fans to sit diagnal? are they on hinges which are part of the case or is this somthing you conjured up yourself? could do with somthing like that in mine :-D

Hot glue gun, best modders tool ever, holds stuff firm but easy to remove (sounds odd but true)

Glue gun...

GREAT IDEA!

didnt think of that lol, been trying to jam a fan between power cables but its a delta fan, and doesnt like to stay still, has a bit of a kick to it lol

Thnx much, got one in the shed lol
