Hi all
Within the last couple of days we have had some really HOT weather and my bedroom, where my computer is located has been very warm to say the least.
My Asusp5-mx board seems to be overheating when running more than "two" main applications, i.e mozilla firefox and VLC media player, if these two items are open at the same time, it will simply freeze after a short period of time...
it has the LGA775 socket with the intel Core duo 2.0ghz processor, 3gb ram, a thermaltake CPU fanless copper base and piped heatsink. 1x 120mm fan at the rear "exhaust" sat less than 1 inch away from the heatsink. another 14cm fan inside the PSU (again only an inch away from the heatsink. and an 80mm fan at the front panel. ( I did have another 80mm fan on the side, but the bearings have collapsed.
Prior to this hot weather it has been fine for well over a year "on 24/7!" with a stable temp average of 32*c to 34*c (depending on load, 100% load= 34*c) highest temp.
I investigated the problem last night and found the bios battery AND (the realtek on board sound chipset) (the silver block, next to the bios battery?) either way the whole chipset surround the bios battery and ram sticks was hot to say the least. when I removed the bios battery to reset the bios I took the battery out and burn't myself, the battery was that hot!
I'm not certain whether it is down to the cooling, as when it crashes it's showing an indicated "42*c" at the time of the crashing "cpu temp" motherboard would be approx 52-54*c
I have been thinking of buying a new a case where further fans can be fitted i.e 5 fans in total to increase further air-flow. as I don't think my X-blade case even with all the fans fitted and working, would cut it.
any idea's?
Its the first time I've come across an overheating chipset.. it's been running fine for at least a year on "pretty much" 24/7! and never had any problems since the build.
could my board be on its way out? or do I just need to update the cooling with better airflow case and further fans?
In recent times, I've noticed when I have rebooted after a power cut (house power-cut) or reboot after a windows update the sound icon in the taskbar isn't their. after a few reboot's it then appears... (although thats probably down to the OS..)
here's a list of my sensory info

I've been looking into buying a new case, I'm sure the problems come from air-flow, even If I fitted another 80mm fan on the side panel, i doubt it will be enough...
I have a budget of approx £50 to spend on a new case.
Here's some I've been looking at
NO COMPETITORS
the only problem with the above is reviews say they are filmsy and the turbine isn't powered, only moves from the air-flow from the 120mm fan located behind the turbine... (surely that would be more of an "air" restriction? anyone have any reviews from here?
another one I've seen is this -
NO COMPETITORS
anyone have any reviews on this from here?
if anyone can recommend a good case that can take 4 fans or more and has great cooling properties for around the £50 area, please post!
Thanks
