While memory prices and quite low i'd thought i would stick 4gb of ram in my system to if it speeds up my vista 64 any, so i brought another pack of geil 6400 low latency dual kit to go with my other pack.
I installed ram and booted up but i keep getting blue screen all the time it works fine if i take 1 stick out doesn't matter which one but it will not boot with more than 3gig in the system. i thought this motherboard supported more?
The one thing i think it might be is i also have a 1gb flash drive which Vista is using to readyboost the system i wonder if windows sees that as system ram i understand that vista premium can't use more than 4 gb is that corect?
any ideas?
It's vista 64 premium btw.

It sounds like a bad stick of RAM, or a bad slot, or insufficient voltage to support 4 sticks. Are you running at the recommended voltage or at the AUTO setting?

Recommended voltages are 2.1 for geil thats what it's says on the side of them
having trouble with 3 sticks now took 1 more out and been fine for last hour.
Wouldn't have thought i'd have to up voltages for more than 2 sticks :(

You shouldn't have to turn up the voltages, but if you were running by SPD, then you might only be running 1.8V, hence I asked the question.

Is it one stick or one slot in particular?

nope doesn't matter whcih stick or which slot i take it from it only boots with 3 gig in it, as for the voltages there's a little note in the geil packages teling you that you have to up the volts to 2.1 for it to run properly.

UMM got fsb set to auto so should be alright yes?
just updated bios to lastest one and still no joy :(
think it might be fussy vista never had a operating system
tell about memory configurations at start up stange that it
never says this when i put 3 gig in system.

There is a known issue with the 680i boards that they cannot support 4 sticks of RAM at greater than 667MHz. Try setting your RAM to 667MHz and see if that helps.

Same problem occurs with the P5Ne-sli with the Geil memory. Running at 667 'cures' it. I actually managed to get it to boot at 720 but thats as high as I could go before it failed to post.

awesome why stick the extra slot in there if they can't use it? you reckon
this might be fixed in the future with a bios up date?
Oh well 3 gb will do for now seems to be running nice again with 3 gb i'd rather run 3g at full speed than 4gb at slower speeds.

No, you wouldn't because it's now running single channel.

I think it may well have already been fixed - is that the latest BIOS?

did you try the above and change the speed to 667Mhz ? i believe thats your problem, its a known issue with the northbridge on 680i boards as stated. Thats one of the reasons I'm waiting for the next .rev :)
