Hello,
I will soon be in possession of a p5q deluxe board and want to run a RAID 0 array using 2 old 74G Raptors (SATA possible only SATA150). I am not bothered if i loose the data on them.

Do i add them to the ports using the SIL controller or the ports using the Intel controller?

If you could explain you answer too please as i am very confused with having 2 different RAID controllers on one board?

Thanks

About to set up a raid0 array as well (2x16mb cache 74gb raptors) and ive been advised to use the intel ports as theyre apparently quicker than silicon image.

Avoid the others SATA ports, they are very bespoke and caused me hours of headache, don't understand why Asus/SiL didn't just make them standard SATA ports instead of the Expert Drive crap that they.

Sorry, i know this is an old post, but the comment

i think he means the orange ones mate.... i am using 0 - 1 for raid0 on my P5Q-E on the Intel controller.:D

Im using port 1 for my cd/dvd drive and ports 2, 3, 4 and 5 for my arrays... Just to be awkward :P

No ill effects to report of and it shouldn't make a difference anyway :)

Haven't bothered with the Sil controller at all, seems too much of a gimmick to me

I just want raid0, in the best ports :p

im trying to set it up now.. not getting anywhere..

i went into bios set raid in storage config. saved exited, when booting im pushig crt and i and not getting anywhere, just keeps saying something like insert bootable disk...

Read the manual, it will explain on how to create a Raid floppy disk, i had the same headache problem with my P5Q Pro, i also went with the intel controller.

Edit: If you haven't got the SATA cables plugged into the right SATA slots ctrl+i will not work which i also found out whe doing so myself.

The manual has a very easy to use guide on setting up raid, will take you through step by step... Are you doing ctrl+i straight away (like you would DEL for bios)?

yeah i used intel ports the special asus ones are gay!!

i had disabled the floppy in bios!! woops...

installed now, but xp is taking a while to boot, not sure why, i did choose 128kb raid instead of 64,,, wonder if that is why...
the xp scroll bar goes across like 8 times before boot...

Install the two drives on the intel sata ports 0 & 1.

Enable raid in the bios, save & exit. ctrl - i on boot, build the raid 0 array with a 128k stripe. You may need to have the raid drivers handy for when your installing the operating system. When Windows is installed make sure you install the Intel matrix manager to enable caching for the 0 array.

Sorted :D

Yeah done that yesterday ;) but xp is taking a while to boot, not sure why, i did choose 128kb raid instead of 64,,, the xp scroll bar goes across like 10 times before boot...
