Hi,

I'm building a new PC with a P5Q-E. It's not outputting to DVI. At first I thought it wasn't posting. Then I tried a 2nd card (Asus EN6600). Still no output on DVI. But then I connected the 6600 on the VGA port it worked fine.
I am connecting the 8 pin correctly and I'm connecting the 2 PCI-e connectors to the card (none required on the EN6600). I don't know if it's relevant anymore, but I've also taken the mobo out of the case in case it was shorting.
What am i doing wrong?

P5Q-e

Corsair Dominator PC2-8500C5
Corsair TX 750W
Powercolor HD 4870 PCS Extreme
Antec P182

Thanks
Gerald

Sometimes cards like you to connect to a particular DVI port eg my asus 8800 needed by to connect to the DVI port nearest the mobo, otherwise i would not get anything on the monitor (an intially i thought it had broken). The second DVI slot can only be used for dual monitors on this card. This could be a long shot but have you tried changing the DVI port used on the 4870?

There is an option in the BIOS of most motherboards (certainly is on the P5Q-dlx) to instruct the motherboard to look for a PCI-e gfx crad rather than a PCI card. Im afraid i cant remember where it is buried in the bios. Again, its probably a long shot, but its worth a try. Other than that im afraid i dont have any other suggestions, but someone else may be able to lend a hand.

EDIT: It may be a bios problem. It could be a goo didea to flash the bios to a newer up to date version. Admittedly it could be difficult to do if you cant get a signal to the monitor, but you could use the VGA connection on the nvidia card. Its pretty easy using the ASUS EZflash thing (but do it through the bios, NOT windows, and make sure you read the manual section on it first).

I have had a similar - though not quite as bad - problem on my P5Q-E. Have an nvidia 280 gtx on mine and the monitor often loses the signal from the DVI card, its pretty annoying, havent found any solution as it says..

Have you got a dvi to vga converter so you could try connecting via vga and see if that works? Mine worked without a problem via vga cable, but the picture was quite inferior.
