I've got an Asus P5Q-E, Q9550 & 4GB Corsair Dominator running Vista 64 bit. I was wondering if I'd get better sound quality/performance out of the onboard sound or out of my old Creative Audigy 2.
I'm not entirely clued up on AI Audio 2 on these P5Q-E boards but I believe it does simulate surround sound.
IMO, I have always stuck to dedicated Sound Cards as I found onboard sound pretty crap with gaming.
You will get better sound from something dedicated to it and there are new beta drivers on Creatives website for the Audigy 2 that might give you something better than you had before.
However, there are still a few bugs to iron out.

Known Issues:
* Gameport is not supported in Windows Vista and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
* 6.1 speaker mode is not supported by Windows Vista.
I installed it and it works fine (I'm on Vista 64bit). I've only played GRID and a few songs so far but I'd say the sound quality is much better. Much fuller sound, more bass (I have a SpeedLink Medusa 5.1 Surround). I'd say go for it.
