I have a P5W deluxe mobo with a E6600 and corsiar XMS2 6400C4 Dominator ram now i got the chip @ 3.2 and the ram at 4-4-4-4-12 but its says in cpu-z that its running @ 270Mhz is this right or do i need to wack it up to get a better over clock from my chip

you say you have the chip @ 3.2ghz

how do you know this ? as CPU-Z reports the correct speed

you've either overclocked it too far and its throttling and slowing the speed, or you've not set the FSB right

to have a 3.2ghz on a 6600 you'd need to be running 356mhz FSB

what FSB have you set in the bios ?

oh and the speed of the memory is defined by the FSB, the FSB also defines the speed of the PSU. So your memory doesnt effect what speed is reported in CPU-Z. You'd need to drop the memory divider as well, to avoid overclocking your memory too far. at 356 FSB the 5300 memory setting would give 890mhz (allmost PC7200) some 90mhz overclock.

i got the FSB set to 360 in bios

use intel thermal analysis tool

see what the temperatures are, your CPU may well be throttling in that case.

using core temp beta 0.94 it says the temps are 41C core0 and 42C core1 and tjunction 85C

what does CPU-Z report the FSB speed and CPU multiplier as

should be 360 and 9

yes it does but the question is the RAM can i get it running faster then 270Mhz or is this right with the FSB of the chip

In BIOS Kill SpeedStep & then change the RAM clock (its right under CPU FSB settings)

sorry to sound silly but where is speedstep in the BIOS
