P6-T memory problem

Hi all,

I recently bought a P6-T. Core i7 920 and the 6GB triple channel Corsair XMS3 1600MHz memory.

At first the computer detected 6gb, but for some reason now it's only detecting 4gb!

The memory sticks are in A1, B1, C1 (ie the orange slots).

I've tried all 3 sticks in pairs of two, and they all work, but it seems slot A1 might be the problem. I have not yet tried it with just 1 stick of RAM in slot A1.

Any thoughts/help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hmmm, the System tab in control panel doesn't detect 6gb, but CPU-Z shows 6144mb but says the system is running in dual-channel mode.

Given that I'm using all 3 orange slots, why on earth is it doing that?

1 stick of RAM in slot A1 doesn't boot. If I put a slot in B1, C1 and C2, it boots with 6gb but obviously not in triple channel! ARGH!

Any help would be v.v.v.useful...

Yep, running latest version of CPU-Z. The issue is that the BIOS only recognises 4GB RAM if I use all 3 orange slots - CPU-Z recognises the 6GB but shows it in dual channel, which implies triple channel mode isn't working.. Now, I'm certain that previously it recognised all 6gb and ran in triple channel.

I've set the memory settings in the BIOS to XMP mode, so the RAM runs at the full 1600MHz speed, but this doesn't affect the full detection.

If I use C1/C2 and B1, it recognises all 6GB RAM. But surely then I don't get the benefits of triple channel? How much of a performance decrease would that be?

Also, I've heard that a CPU cooler not installed properly can cause the board to fail to recognise all the RAM. Has anyone experienced this? My Akasa Nero isn't exactly easy to install properly... (average temps in the 40s and, this morning, it wasn't seated properly so CPU got to 85 degrees! I shut down within 20-30 seconds, though...).

Cheers.
