Wondering which motherboard has the best spacing for sli/xfire?

The boards i am looking at are the UD7, maximus and sabertooth.

cheers

There are pictures of them you know.

Do you really know what you want?

That's one motherboard at £165, one at £290 and one at £300.

You need to decide how much you want to spend first. Is there any reason you need/want a £300 motherboard?

Sabertooth was £220 when i first looked a few weeks ago :)

A lot less now i know.

Yes seen pictures of them all but cards can go in different slots.

Like the ud7 but know that cards will be very close together

Can see the sabertooth gives good spacing

So just trying to figure out the maximus spacing.

Will go and read more but thanks for you "help" :)

Hopefully owners of these boards can give you a steer. (My MEIV should be arriving tomorrow, intended for 580s in SLI, but I will probably wait with the build until I can get my paws on some Vertex 3 SSDs...)

This thread contains some info on the PCI-E slot set-up on the MEIV which may be useful to you: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18248911.

This one may be relevant to the UD7: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18250183&highlight=SLI+UD7

And this seems to be on the Sabertooth: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18251950

This review compares the MEIV and UD7 and goes into some detail on SLI/XF set-up: http://www.techreaction.net/2011/01...us-maximus-iv-extreme-battle-of-the-titans/3/

My intention is to test out the top & bottom slots of the MEIV; if I read the diagrams right this should give you x8 (native)/ x16 (NF200), which in the review is the optimal set-up. This should allow for loads of breathing space for the top card. On the UD7 the optimal configuration seems to be the top two slots which looks tight. Not an issue ofc if you go for watercooling.

Hope that helps a little.

All you need is a board which allows an empty slot between the two cards so that the top one has room to breathe.

In other words the 2 PCI- slots being used for the graphics cards need to be 3 slots apart.

The Sabertooth looks good as the slots are far enough apart but the card in the bottom slot could interfere with the headers at the bottom of the motherboard:

Thanks :)

Had just been reading the techreaction review as you posted :)

The MEIV is looking more tempting now :)

Got about a week to decide....and yes those vertex 3 drives are very tempting indeed :)
cheers :)
