I am looking into a new motherboard and I use crossfire, so it seems that allot of the M/B have 1 x 16 and 1 x 8 pci-e is this a problem ?
I have two 6970's do I look into p67 or p68?

Also on paper a motherboard costing say £300 and one costing £140 look the same so what is a board costing £300 givening you? I would rather spend around £130-£150 I will buy a 2500k but don't know what Memory to buy :(

I am rubbish at this so my appoligies for DUMB questions

The Z68 and P67 range of boards mostly do crossfire/SLi as 8x, 8x.

The exceptions to that are the boards with the NF200 chip which provides the extra PCI lanes.
The good news, there is a (very) minimal effect to running the current cards @ 8x, 8x compared to 16, 16x.

Options:
Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
MSI Z68A-GD55-G3
MSI Z68A-G45-G3
Asus P8Z68-V GEN3

All of the above are in your price range & are Gen3 boards meaning they will take intel's next CPU "ivy bridge" and allow at least 1 of the lanes to run @ PCI-E 3.0 speeds. Although @ the moment no cards use it.

Memory is a sinch, 1600MHz Dual channel, which ever you fancy :)

If your going to run eyefinity, stay away from any boards with the NF200 chip as i have spent much money and time trying to get a performance boost with 2/3 cards but just get mouse to screen lag, it will work OK on a single screen but that's it.. i just changed to a MSI p67 and this has now fixed my performance problems, if your going for a top end board i would say a Gigabyte UD7 p67 chip. As for the NF200 i (think) this would work with multi nvidia cards and multi screens but they left this out on the advertising..

16X16 You don't need this i have had my 6970's run on 16x 8x 4x only between 8x-4x did i see a performance drop, also with the pcie running at 8x this will reduce the latency as this is what Asus has done to ts top end boards under multi card use IE 8x8x8x not 16x8x8x

Ok that's interesting  I thought it was a bit stranger that most motherboards were only 8x8 when I bought my M/B there was heavy lean towards 16 x 16 on Pci-e lanes so that's why I was confused.

I will not be doing any eyefinity great if your into motor racing games but other then that!

Thanks for your help guys :)
