I've just bought 2 SATA drives which I've plugged in to the SAS RAID controller on the MB. Windows seems to see the drives OK if left as individual drives but although the RAID setup in the MB BIOS sees both drives and allows me to create an array (wanting to use RAID 0) it barfs that it's broken on the the next reboot.

Is this simply because I'm using plain SATA drives? I'm struggling to see what the difference is between SAS and SATA except for maybe a subtle difference in the software protocol. If I'm barking up the wrong tree and can't use the drives on this controller in RAID am I safe using them without the RAID or should one never use a SATA drive on a SAS controller?

TIA

Is it, is that for RAID? When I searched earlier to see if someone else had the issue I found http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13220001&postcount=8

I've already got 3 HD attached to the Intel controller and would expect 2 or 3 of the drives to be access simultaneously so sharing the load between controllers seemed sensible, especially if there was little difference and maybe better CPU utilisation.
