Hi there, have the above mobo.

When i power it on, it comes on and then quickly switches off (without anything appearing onscreen) and then powers back on again by itself and then boots fine.

any ideas what could be wrong here?

Any help/advice most appreciated!

thanks :)

go into your bios first and save the profile

then shut down clear the cmos go back i bios and set everything upto default ( ram / cpu ) remembering to change boot order etc , if its the same reload the old bios you saved and check psu ratings and possibly the 2nd power connector ( is it a 4 or 8pim ) that goes near the top of the mobo.

CPU was overclocked with hyperthreading off when I received. Have reset CMOS and loaded defaults in bios. Have also looked boot order pretty sure the mobo power is properly secured (8 pin).

Perfectly normal with a overclocked rig. PC boot's up with stock settings then detects OC. Shuts down and reboots with OC settings.

Are you switching off the power to the system at the wall after you shut down via the start menu? If so, this dual boot is perfectly normal.

I really like this explanation, but it's difficult to find a reference for it. As all one sees is the computer try to boot, give up, then try again it's difficult to form any conclusions.

All three of my Asus boards did this when overclocked, one did it at stock iirc. It worried me, but didn't seem to matter. I think my current Gigabyte does it too.

Interesting one this... i think i do sometimes switch off at the wall.

Will have to make a mental note and see what the difference is when left on and when switched off at the wall.

Will post findings shortly.

thanks!

Also, this is the first time i've ever experienced a pc to boot twice in order for it to fully work hence my concern. From the comments made so far, it seems quite the norm for overclocked rigs to do this. As mentioned already, i've reset the bios and loaded defaults, would this have left any configurations from the previous user untouched meaning that some part is still overclocked? hmm..

Hi, sorry but I was told that most new motherboards do the double post from cold in purpose to pre-charge the capacitors whether it is OC's or not...

I contacted asus about this on my previous s775 board, (p45 p5q deluxe). The reason they gave for the double boot was so that the memory strap settings could be checked, this only ever happened when power was removed at the wall or if changes were made in the bios. Once youve loaded defaults the bios will be back at factory settings.

just wanted to offer some closure to my problem and hopefully at the same time offer some helpful advice/warnings to others.

I basically over tightened my 'be quiet' cpu cooler. in my defence, i've never fitted a cooler of this type where you screw on via the back (believe it or not).

Anyway, i think my first attempt at fitting the cooler was a little tight causing intermittent problems... ironically i thought it was too loose and then i reseated the cpu but this time making sure the screws were tight..BIG MISTAKE :( (costly too... bye bye cpu and mob... )

I basically over tightened it on one particular corner to a point where some of the contacts on the cpu came off and was 'stuck' on the pins of the socket. Socket itself suffered bent contact pins... so sad :(

Anyway, whoever's getting similar led light/double boot problems, please reseat your cpu...loosen up those screws! obviously when you attach the cooler, just start out light and outside of the case..make sure it's all good before you put things together.

oh well... hope this helps someone.

i'm going to cry myself to sleep.. and in shame :(
