I went to buy a laptop today, an Asus G71, but I've held off because I want to check out a couple of things first.

The place I went to had two model numbers:

G71V 7S024G
G71G 7T014K

The G series is the newer model and it's reflected slightly in the price. The G ships with a 9800M GS while the older V series ships with a 9700M GS. The V series runs a T9400 while the newer G series runs a P8400.

I'm hardly an expert but looking at the CPU's, despite being the older chip is the T9400 not still better than the P8400? Ignore heat and battery life, neither concern me that much, but the newer chip running half the cache does.

I guess what I'm driving at is, with minimal price difference, what would you go for? Does the 9800 blow the 9700 so much out of the water that the CPU is an afterthought?

I have a P8400 in my DV5 and its a great chip. In games your most likely going to be GPU bottlenecked and not CPU, espcially with a laptop, so personally, Id go with the P8400 and 9800MGS. But as always, look at some benchmarks on the internet and see waht they pull up!

i've got the T9400 and 9600M GT, i get an average of 24.9Frames per second in GTA4 on med high settings and 1280x800 if that helps...
