Got a strange one here.

Just set up and got windows etc running on my i5-2500k on p8p67 mobo.

Went in to bios to do a cheeky quick overclock by setting multi to 45 just to see what would happen.

I saved it, rebooted, went back into Windows - coretemp, windows sys info, cpuz etc all reporting 3.3ghz still.

Go back to bios, indeed 3.3 still. However, there is something that says 'turbo 4500mhz' or similar.

So I try again, and it still wont save it.

What am I doing wrong? I'm sure it's a noob error but I can't fathom it. I dont normally overclock but I figure it's worth a bash for a potential huge increase in mhz for one setting.

Thanks

Have the same board and all you need to do is set cpu ratio (or whatever it's called) to manual. Select by all cores (might not be exact wording) and set the multiplier to 45 (as you seem to).

For me I have to put in excess of 1.3 volts to cpu to keep this stable and I would also recommend setting your ram manually - voltage and timings. You may also need to adjust the system agent settings (the 2 VCC somethings), in my case I use LLC at 'extreme' and also disable spread spectrum at bottom of bios. Save and exit.

Remember when in desktop, the processor will generally run at about 1.6gig when not under load, so kick up CPU-Z and run prime 95 to see whether your cpu is registering the 4.5 overclock. Hope this helps

i got this sorted - speed stepping was throwing me. Got it up to 4.5 and cba going any further really. It almost feels like what's the point? It's already super quick. Don't need more at the moment.

Cheers
